What do dragons, beaches and Georgian Bay have in common?
Why they come together to create one of the most fun, family and adult oriented times of the year!
In June every year thousands of people descend upon Parry Sound’s largest beach for two days and a night of paddling, music, food and fun. Dragon Boat racing is a great way to meet new friends, compete against old ones, get some out of doors exercise, and raise some money for charity. If you have never heard of this event or are curious then please head down to Parry Sound’s BLUE FLAG beach (Waubuno Beach on Prospect Street) on June 11th or click here for more information. New teams are welcome. There are also outrigger races on the following Sunday. They have youth and family racing categories as well as a competitive one. Games for kids, a food court and even a beer tent are all part of the show.
The steel drum band is always a highlight. Over the course of the day they mix classic steel drum tunes with contemporary songs for a truly engaging show. Some people just show up to swim, eat, and soak up sunshine while watching the competition. This is a twelve year old event that has grown in popularity as well as production value. The carnival/festival style feeling adds to the feel good atmosphere of playing outside in a Canadian summer.
Kick off your summer vacation in style with this world class, well run event!
