On Saturday, February 22, 2025, the 40th annual Seguin Sled Dog Mail Run will take place.
Since 1985, “sledvelopes,” which include letters particularly crafted for the occasion, have been collected, loaded onto sleds, and pulled by many dog teams to Rosseau, Ontario, which is 17 kilometers away through the bush on well-maintained paths. To the applause and well wishes of the numerous onlookers and friends, teams assemble and depart from the Village of Humphrey, Ontario, on Highway 141. They then vanish into the bush en route to Rosseau, where they will be met by the Postmaster.
The “sledvelopes” are cancelled by hand stamping, which is a very old technique. Around the world, these “sledvelopes” have turned into collectibles.
Sledvelopes will be available for purchase in early December at the following locations:
Seguin Public Libraries
Rosseau Post Office
Rosseau General Store
Humphrey Arena
Seguin Township Municipal Office
Each sledvelope is $3.50 each or $5.00 with a $1.50 donation to Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary.
